Concerning Merits

While the Rangers of Tharbad value equality among members of the kinship, there are times when acknowledgment must be given. A Merit is just that: acknowledgment for a job exceedingly well done. Sometimes, Merits are also necessary to advance in rank.

Who can give Merits? Why, anyone KR4 and above can give a Merit, as long as it was earned. Be warned though, they can also take Merits away. Now, you may be wondering, "if I did a job exceedingly well and got a merit for it, how can that be taken away from me?" Well, that is a great question, and the answer is quite simple. Let's say that you organize a project and earn a merit for it....well, if you fail to follow up on that project, then your merit will be taken away. Also, merits can be taken away for major violations of the CoC (Code of Conduct). Even though we enjoy recognizing accomplishments, we don't tolerate gloating and rubbing it in your fellow kinmate's face. Always remember that being a member of the Rangers of Tharbad means that you are to be respectful and dignified.

How do I get a Merit? By going above and beyond what is expected of you. Writing a real eye-opening story, saving the life of an innocent, or depositing a very decent sum of money to the kinship are all ways to get Merits, but not the only way. We like to see effort put into tasks. As a note, Merits do -not- have to be awarded, if the KR4 or above doesn’t think enough work went into to project. Merits are not something to be expected, so keep in mind that when you do something for the good of the Kinship, you are doing it for the good of the kinship and not for a Merit.

Why do I need Merits to gain rank? We could just give you a task to do, have you do it, and them come to us with proof that you did, in fact, do it; but what would that prove to us? That you can do something if you have too, and then only if you know there is going to be a reward for it? We want you to think. We want you to put your time, thought, and best effort into the kinship. Most importantly, we want you to be original.
